Reflections

Our newest portrait series is focused on people in their favorite spaces at home and in their workshops or artist studios!

Almost twenty years ago, I received a call to create a collection of images of a home that had been suddenly made empty by the passing of the family’s beloved mother and grandmother. I walked through the silent rooms, taking in her still open bible, her favorite cosmetics lined up on her sink, and the old-fashioned flowers blooming in her carefully tended garden. I think about the images and that experience all the time. While the images I captured told a poignant story, I wish we had been able to craft a portrait of that beautiful lady in her home, surrounded by her history.

I just created the portrait above in this couple’s incredible kitchen. She’s an uber-talented metal artist who can make almost anything. Her pastry chef skills were on display as we devoured the Italian Lemon Tart she baked for us. The hand hammered copper sink and counter behind her were fashioned with her own hands. Her equally talented artist and creator husband built the cabinets in the background. Their home is filled with art and interesting things from their travels. It was warm, inviting, and inspiring. The space speaks volumes about their lives and loves. This portrait is in one of my favorite genres — authentic, personal, environmental, and filled with stories.

My mentor, Michael Taylor, of Sigmon Taylor Photography, is creating a body of work called ROADWORK filled with incredible people and their places. We spent a few days together this month, and I left even more inspired to make these images. I’m excited to offer this opportunity to you in the form of Reflections, our newest portrait line. I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been up to. I LOVE it!

Let’s create a Reflections portrait together! Fill out the form below and we’ll be in touch with more information.
