We’re in the Messy Middle…

Have you ever done a whole house renovation? We’ve built two houses and renovated one, but this is probably the most involved project I’ve done since we built out our studio here in Prescott. We’re creating a multi-generational home filled with quiet luxury touches and completely updated finishes. It’s been an incredible opportunity, and the source of many sleepless nights as well. We have the best contractor in the world and a lot of help with design selections, but it’s still a bit nerve-wracking making so many decisions at once. I can’t wait to show it to you when it’s finished, but the exterior glow-up has already begun with new windows and stucco.

Here’s the before - we’ve come a long way already!

There’s a lot more to come. We’re currently in the middle of staining the deck and plotting out new landscaping plants. We’ve been collecting lighting and decor and cabinet knobs. Imagining how everything will look together and hoping that my vision is not insane. It’s one of those projects that stretches and changes you.

This is the first image in the series I’m working on. It’s entitled “I’m fine, it’s fine, everything’s fine…”

The messy middle that we are currently existing in seems like it will go on forever, but as in times past, it’ll be over before we know it. In the meantime, as I’m creating and idea-generating about house things, it’s influencing my studio work as well. It’s a proven fact that creative practices feed each other. Lately, I’ve been working on a series of images featuring movement that tells a story. New ideas are coming to me all the time, it’s one of the gifts of where we’re at right now. I’m embracing it and saying thank you for the opportunities that are presenting themselves. Now, back to picking a paint color for the guest bath…
